Uganda ministry reviews spending ahead of 2027-28 budget year

The Ministry of Internal Affairs held a conference to assess financial performance and plan resource allocation for the coming financial year.

Uganda's Ministry of Internal Affairs has convened a budget conference to review how money has been spent and to plan financial strategy for the 2027/28 financial year. The event, held at Silver Springs Hotel, brought together department heads and budget officers under the leadership of the ministry's Permanent Secretary, Lt. Gen. Joseph Musanyufu, to examine budget implementation and identify priorities going forward.

The conference centred on three main areas: strengthening the planning process for budgets, improving how resources are distributed among departments, and ensuring that spending aligns with the ministry's wider strategic goals. Musanyufu told participants that the review would help departments identify shortfalls in funding and prepare spending forecasts that would shape preparations for the next financial year.

Musanyufu stressed the need to connect departmental budgets more closely with the ministry's strategic objectives. He said better alignment between spending plans and priorities would improve how efficiently public money is used and increase accountability. The Permanent Secretary emphasised that the conference offered departments a chance to assess how well they have implemented budgets so far and to spot areas where funding falls short of what is needed.

Musanyufu told the conference: 'We must ensure that our budget planning and resource allocation are aligned with the Ministry's strategic objectives so that available resources support our key priorities.' The review is expected to feed into the preparation of departmental budgets and strengthen financial planning across the ministry as it prepares for the 2027/28 financial year.

For savers, borrowers and business owners in Uganda, how government agencies plan and allocate budgets affects the quality and availability of public services that support economic activity.
