MTN sponsors Buganda cultural shows in three-year deal

The mobile operator becomes official sponsor of two cultural platforms, targeting business participation and digital audience expansion.

MTN Uganda has agreed a three-year sponsorship of two Buganda cultural platforms, Entanda and Enkuuka, through a partnership with broadcaster Central Broadcasting Service announced on October 29. The collaboration, operating under the theme Tukula Ffena meaning "We all grow together", aims to strengthen cultural participation and create business opportunities. MTN will become the official sponsor of the two platforms, which engage audiences through Buganda's traditions, heritage, knowledge and celebrations.

A new Entanda Corporate Edition will target small and medium-sized enterprises, providing them with chances to participate in the cultural programme and reach audiences. MTN Uganda Chief Executive Officer Sylvia Mulinge said the partnership was designed to create opportunities and strengthen connections among communities and participating institutions, with the theme reflecting shared ambition among MTN, CBS, the Buganda Kingdom and other stakeholders. Mulinge added that Entanda and Enkuuka offered platforms for cultural learning, participation and celebration, and that MTN would explore ways of using connectivity and digital services to strengthen audience engagement and access.

CBS Managing Director Michael Kawooya Mwebe said the partnership would combine the broadcaster's reach with MTN's communications infrastructure and digital capabilities to support cultural preservation and community empowerment. He noted the collaboration would create opportunities for young people and women, support wealth creation and help preserve Buganda's heritage through digital platforms. The deal builds on previous collaboration between MTN Uganda, its mobile money subsidiary MTN MoMo, CBS and the Buganda Kingdom, including road safety awareness campaigns and fundraising for the Accident, Injury and Trauma Centre at Nkozi Hospital through the Kaliisoliiso Dinner initiative.

Dr Catherine Agnes Nabaloga, who attended the launch as guest of honour, described the partnership as an opportunity to preserve and celebrate cultural heritage while supporting socio-economic transformation, particularly among young people. She urged the partners to translate their commitments into tangible benefits for communities and contribute to the Buganda Kingdom's development agenda. Through the agreement, MTN and CBS said they would seek to deepen participation in Entanda and Enkuuka while exploring opportunities to expand audience engagement through digital platforms and services.
