Tanzania's Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba has warned that the government will take strict action against anyone found guilty of misappropriating public funds, as it continues to implement recommendations from the Controller and Auditor General. Speaking on November 6, 2026, while adjourning the Fifth Meeting of the 13th Parliament in Dodoma, Dr Nchemba reminded accounting officers and government officials to comply with laws, regulations and procedures governing the use of public money in line with approved plans and budgets, in order to avoid audit queries and financial losses.
The Prime Minister said the government would act on all recommendations made by Parliament through its resolutions and matters raised during parliamentary proceedings, as well as address findings contained in audit reports. He commended members of Parliament for their contributions, noting that their deliberations demonstrated concern for the protection and proper management of the country's national resources.
In a separate directive, Dr Nchemba instructed all ministries and government institutions to implement instructions issued by President Samia Suluhu Hassan during the inauguration of the Government City in Mtumba, Dodoma, on October 30, 2026. He directed government operations to be conducted from Dodoma, the country's capital, and called on ministries and institutions to stop operating parallel offices in Dodoma and Dar es Salaam, now that government office buildings have been completed.
The Prime Minister further instructed ministries and public institutions to relocate their operations to the Government City and discontinue the use of rented office premises. He also directed the Dodoma City Council, in collaboration with transport stakeholders, to ensure the availability of public transport services to the Government City to enable citizens to access services conveniently.
