ROKO Construction Limited has won the Platinum Award for Quality Excellence at the East African Brand Quality Awards 2025/2026, recognising the company's work in construction, engineering, innovation and sustainable building practices. The award was presented at a ceremony held at Hotel Africana in Kampala. Organisers said the awards recognise brands across East and Southern Africa, assessing nominees on criteria including quality, reliability and consumer trust. More than 250 brands were recognised from 370 nominees across 230 categories in this year's awards, which were organised by Consumer Choice Awards Africa, Investors Hub and iNet.
ROKO's chairman Mark Koehler said the award reflected the contribution of the company's workforce and its record of delivering construction projects in Uganda. "This recognition is a testament to the dedication and professionalism of our workforce and our continued commitment to delivering high-quality construction projects," Koehler said. He said the company had contributed to Uganda's development for more than five decades through engineering expertise, skilled craftsmanship and project delivery. Koehler thanked ROKO's more than 1,850 employees, clients, partners and other stakeholders, saying their contributions and trust had supported the company's operations.
Founded in Uganda in 1969 by Max Rohrer and Rainer Kohler, ROKO has undertaken commercial, institutional, residential and public infrastructure projects. Its portfolio includes the Uganda Martyrs Shrine at Namugongo, Bank of Uganda, Workers House, Crested Towers, Village Mall Bugolobi, Acacia Mall, Mestil Hotel and Mapeera House. The company also recently completed the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development in Kampala. State Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development Henry Musasizi praised the company's experience and reliability at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Uganda Bureau of Statistics office block in Entebbe, describing ROKO as Uganda's best local construction company.
The company says it employs more than 1,850 people and invests in developing local technical skills through training technicians, craftsmen and other construction professionals. Koehler said ROKO intended to maintain its standards of quality and safety while contributing to Uganda's long-term development. The awards ceremony was held under the theme "Global Visionaries of Quality: Pioneering Sustainable Innovations, Advancing Technology and Value Addition," with the UK-based Chartered Quality Institute reportedly participating in the selection process.
