Uganda courts Polish investors at Warsaw tourism workshop

Uganda's delegation promoted lodge investment and tourism infrastructure to Polish and Central European tour operators at a major international event.

Uganda used its role as official partner country at the ALLinTOO international tourism workshop in Warsaw to attract Polish and Central European tour operators and encourage investment in lodges and tourism infrastructure, according to a statement from the Ugandan delegation. The event, held on 22-23 October 2026 at the Campanile PRIME Warsaw Airport hotel, brought together about 80 exhibitors and exclusively drew tour operators from Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary seeking international business partnerships.

Six Ugandan destination management companies exhibited at the workshop: Ganza Adventure, Destination Jungle, Wild Jungle Trails, Kubwa 5 Safaris, Cheetah Safaris and Crystal Safaris. The delegation, led by Jessica Namuddu, Second Secretary in charge of tourism at the Uganda Embassy in Berlin, and Jennifer Asiimwe, met Polish and international buyers to promote travel packages and business partnerships. The firms highlighted Uganda's attractions beyond mountain gorillas, including wildlife, waterfalls, snow-capped mountains, cultural heritage and hospitality. Crystal Safaris noted in the exhibitor listing that it offers Polish-speaking guides.

Beyond promoting holiday sales, the delegation invited Polish investors to explore opportunities in tourism infrastructure and lodge development, as well as partnerships with Ugandan tourism businesses. The delegation also promoted the Explore Uganda campaign and the Uganda Tourism Board's international marketing efforts. The Embassy of the Republic of Uganda in Berlin, which is accredited to Poland, served as the event's official sponsor.

The engagement reflects a broader push by Uganda to build tourism ties with Poland. Namuddu previously showcased Uganda at the Warsaw International Tourism and Travel Fair in November 2025 alongside tour operators and coffee exporters. Uganda also exhibited its coffee at the Coffee Europe Expo in Warsaw in September, and the Berlin mission participated in an agricultural technology fair in Kielce in March 2026. In October 2025, Uganda's ambassador in Berlin, Stephen Mubiru, received Monika Zych, the newly appointed Honorary Consul of Uganda to Poland based in Warsaw.

The delegation invoked historical ties between the two countries, recalling that Uganda hosted about 7,000 Polish refugees, mainly women and children, between 1942 and 1944 in two camps at Nyabyeya in Masindi District and Koja in Mukono District. Most were resettled in Britain, Canada and Australia in 1948. Poland's embassy in Nairobi maintains the Polish cemetery at Koja, and the Polish church in Masindi was renovated with Polish funds. The delegation commended the organisers for providing a platform for business-to-business meetings and expressed hope that the engagements would lead to more visitors and investment in Uganda.
