The Federal Reserve Board published minutes on Tuesday from three meetings held in August and September 2026. During these sessions, the board reviewed and determined the discount rates it provides to depository institutions through its discount window. The discount rate is the interest rate the central bank charges when banks borrow directly from it.
The Federal Reserve noted that its process for setting the discount rate operates separately from how the Federal Open Market Committee sets the target range for the federal funds rate, which is the rate banks charge each other for overnight loans.
