Nvidia, the world's most valuable company, has committed $250m to UK AI safety research, pledging $50m annually in computing power over five years to support British work on autonomous AI agents. However, analysts have cautioned that the investment could increase the country's dependence on American technology firms.
Experts have warned that unless domestic researchers maintain control over safety standards, the UK risks becoming overly reliant on foreign tech companies. The concern centres on whether Britain can shape its own AI governance independently as it receives substantial support from overseas investors.
