National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah has urged the National Social Security Fund to tackle corruption among its staff and make services more accessible to retirees in remote areas. Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, he said retirees from counties including Marsabit and Mandera should not have to travel to Nairobi to claim their benefits. He warned that NSSF management must remain accountable to Parliament and take responsibility for alleged misconduct rather than placing blame on junior staff.
Ichung'wah also called for the fund to expand the use of technology, allowing members to submit claims and access savings without visiting NSSF offices. He urged the organisation to either improve standards or face consequences, saying leadership accountability was essential for addressing the fund's problems.
