Kenya increases pay for state corporation board chairs

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission has raised monthly honorariums and allowances for leaders of state-owned bodies.

The Salaries and Remuneration Commission has increased the monthly honorarium for chairpersons of state corporations from Sh80,000 to Sh130,000, the commission announced. The revised pay structure, which took effect following a review in early October, also sets sitting allowances at Sh30,000 per meeting. Regular board members will not receive a monthly honorarium but will earn the per-meeting allowance along with other approved benefits.

Under the new terms, chairpersons receive a monthly telephone allowance of Sh7,000, while other board members get Sh5,000. The package includes annual medical cover of up to Sh3 million for inpatient treatment and Sh200,000 for outpatient care for all board members. The changes followed a request from the State Corporations Advisory Committee.
