Shadow minister calls for Budget support to tackle youth joblessness

The Conservative opposition is urging the government to use the Budget to help businesses employ young people left out of work and education.

Helen Whately, the Conservative shadow work and pensions secretary, has called on the government to act in the Budget to encourage businesses to hire young people. She highlighted that one million young people are not in employment, education or training, known as Neets.

Speaking to the BBC, Whately urged ministers to back businesses in taking on more young workers from this group, framing youth employment as a priority issue for the opposition.
