About 12,000 households in Marakwet East, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, are expected to benefit from the Sh350 million Kapyego Water Project. The first phase has been commissioned, with the second phase currently under construction. President William Ruto highlighted the project's progress during a development tour of the region.
Once complete, both phases will expand access to water for domestic use, farming and livestock keeping across the area. The project forms part of the government's wider National Infrastructure Fund plans, which aim to develop 50 mega dams, 200 medium dams and 1,000 micro dams to support domestic water supply, irrigation and livestock production.
