Vice-President Deogratius Ndejembi has directed Tanzania's public sector to combine multiple youth employment systems into one integrated platform. He made the directive while reviewing government youth empowerment initiatives in Rukwa Region. Young Tanzanians currently need to register separately on three different government systems - YES, Kazi Portal and Ajira Portal - to access jobs, internships, tenders and other opportunities, a process he said wastes their time and internet bundles.
The Vice-President highlighted problems with the current fragmented approach. About 20,000 young people registered on the YES platform, but only seven opportunities were listed there, he said. He questioned whether the entire government, including public institutions, ministries, regions and districts, genuinely had just seven positions available for young people. He called on the e-Government Authority to work with responsible institutions to eliminate duplication and streamline access to information.
Several government agencies have already committed to creating jobs for young people. Seven major institutions have approached the Vice-President with recruitment proposals, with one offering 200 positions, another 150 and another 100, he said. The government has directed relevant institutions to identify 10,000 employment opportunities for young people in public institutions overall.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan has repeatedly ordered government institutions to integrate their digital systems, the Vice-President said. He expects to receive a coordinated report from relevant ministries by Monday for submission to the President.
