Sinotrucks and Sterling Bank partner on vehicle financing

Nigerian vehicle manufacturer Sinotrucks has signed an agreement with Sterling Bank to improve access to financing for commercial vehicle ownership.

Nigerian Sinotrucks Limited and Sterling Bank Limited have entered into a partnership to expand access to vehicle financing and integrated mobility solutions across Nigeria. The agreement, formalised through a Memorandum of Agreement, aims to address what both organisations identify as a major constraint in the mobility market: access to appropriate financing for vehicle acquisition.

Nigerian Sinotrucks Limited is a wholly Nigerian-owned company incorporated in 2012 that holds Federal Government recognition as a vehicle assembler and manufacturer, a status it received in January 2015. The company is an authorised distributor of Sinotruk products and manufactures heavy-duty commercial vehicles including HOWO tractor heads, dump trucks, tippers, cargo trucks and tankers. It has expanded its portfolio to include alternative-energy offerings, with CNG and LNG-powered trucks, and has recently introduced Sitrak electric commercial trucks to the Nigerian market.

According to Alfred Okugbeni, Managing Director of Nigerian Sinotrucks Limited, the collaboration addresses customer needs beyond vehicle supply alone. "Access to reliable vehicles is only one part of the mobility equation. Access to appropriate financing is equally important," he said. "Our partnership with Sterling Bank is a deliberate effort to bridge that gap and create greater opportunities for individuals and businesses to acquire the vehicles they need to grow." Okugbeni added that combining mobility and finance creates benefits including stronger businesses, improved logistics, greater productivity and wider economic opportunities.

Sterling Bank's involvement reflects its commitment to using strategic partnerships to deliver financial solutions addressing real economic needs. A bank representative stated the partnership provides an opportunity to connect customers seeking vehicle ownership with financial solutions while contributing to a more efficient transportation ecosystem. The collaboration complements Nigerian Sinotrucks Limited's broader customer-support proposition, which includes after-sales services, maintenance, genuine spare parts and technical training for drivers and mechanics.

Industry observers have identified the need for stronger collaboration between vehicle distributors, financial institutions and mobility stakeholders to address high vehicle acquisition costs and improve access to transportation assets. The partnership has potential to support businesses across logistics, manufacturing, distribution, construction and other sectors dependent on transportation.

For businesses and individuals in Nigeria seeking commercial vehicles, this partnership means improved access to financing options that can help overcome capital constraints when acquiring vehicles needed for growth and operations.
