WACOT extends fertilizer partnership with Edo State

The fertilizer producer has renewed its agreement with the Edo State Government to boost local production and support farmers.

WACOT Limited has extended its partnership with the Edo State Government on fertilizer production through the Edo State Fertilizer and Chemical Company Limited in Auchi. The agreement, which started in 2017, aims to increase local fertilizer output, help smallholder farmers and strengthen Nigeria's food security.

The Auchi facility holds strategic importance for Nigeria's fertilizer industry. According to the President of the Fertilizer Producers and Suppliers Association of Nigeria, it is the only plant in the South-South region capable of producing crop-specific fertilizer blends tailored to local soil conditions. The facility can also manufacture specialised chemical blends for the North-East, where security challenges have made it difficult to establish new fertilizer production plants.

WACOT's Managing Director said the renewal demonstrates the company's commitment to Edo State and Nigeria's agricultural development, noting that the public-private partnership has successfully revived an asset since 2017. The Edo State Commissioner for Business, Trade and Investments described the partnership as a strategic move to position the state as an investment destination, while supporting farmers through better access to agricultural inputs and creating jobs in Auchi and beyond.
