Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, Tanzania's Minister for Finance, led the country's delegation at the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Bangkok, Thailand. The discussions centred on job creation, infrastructure development, adding value to natural resources including minerals, and strengthening the private sector as a driver of economic transformation.
Speaking at the meetings, Ambassador Omar stressed the importance of international cooperation in tackling economic challenges and building macroeconomic stability. He said global leaders needed to identify collective measures to create resilient economies capable of withstanding shocks and generating opportunities for citizens. Development efforts should deliver tangible benefits to the public through improved access to essential services, infrastructure and investment, he added.
The meetings brought together governors, finance ministers, central bank governors and private-sector representatives from various countries to discuss the global economic outlook and strategies for accelerating sustainable development. Thailand's Prime Minister, Anutin Charnvirakul, noted that major economic, political and technological changes required countries to strengthen cooperation in addressing cross-border challenges, political divisions, international conflicts and climate change.
The Tanzanian delegation included the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr Natu El-Maamry Mwamba; the Permanent Secretary in the President's Office responsible for Planning, Dr Tausi Kida; and the Governor of the Bank of Tanzania, Emmanuel Tutuba.
