CIPM honours Lagos governor for workforce development drive

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management has awarded its fellowship to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in recognition of the state's investment in human capital development.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria has conferred its fellowship award on Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, recognising the state's commitment to workforce development. The institute presented the honour during a formal meeting with a delegation led by its President Ahmed Gobir at the State House in Marina, Lagos. The fellowship was conferred at the institute's 58th International Conference and Exhibition, where Lagos State sent more than 500 civil servants, the largest delegation at the event.

During the meeting, Sanwo-Olu committed his administration to sustaining human capital development and promised to document this commitment in his handover note to the next administration. He said this step would ensure continuity in the state's investment in professional development across changes in government. The governor commended the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management for advancing human resource management and professional development in Nigeria, calling it a critical partner in building the nation's workforce capacity.

Sanwo-Olu also praised the institute's fellowship selection process, saying it ensures the award's credibility by only recognising those who truly merit it. He expressed satisfaction with the growing number of Lagos State public servants joining CIPM membership and participating in professional development programmes, describing human capital development as central to his administration's agenda.

Ahmed Gobir, the institute's president, commended Sanwo-Olu for his consistent support for workforce development and for facilitating the large participation of state civil servants at the recent conference. He noted that Lagos State demonstrates how deliberate investment in people strengthens institutions and improves public sector performance.
