Kenya to host pan-African pensions conference

The Public Service Superannuation Fund will bring together pension leaders from across Africa to discuss improving retirement systems.

The Public Service Superannuation Fund will host the second Pan-African Pensions Conference in Mombasa from November 18 to 20. The event at PrideInn Paradise Beach Resort and Spa will bring together pension funds, regulators, investors and policymakers from across the continent under the theme 'From Reform to Reality: Building Pension Systems That Work for Africa.'

The conference will address pension governance, expanding coverage, technology use and investment in long-term assets. The PSSF cited OECD estimates showing African pension funds hold approximately $455 billion in assets, though much remains invested in traditional assets and pension coverage is limited in many markets.

PSSF Chairman Hussein Dado said the conference would explore ways to invest pension funds responsibly while protecting members' savings and supporting economic development.
