Ethiopia holds a 300.7 million Special Drawing Rights stake in the International Monetary Fund, equivalent to around 410.3 million dollars, according to the IMF. This shareholding appears modest relative to an economy the IMF values at 126.35 billion dollars.
The disparity between Ethiopia's IMF quota and its economic size sets it apart from other low-income countries in the region, according to Zeine Zeidane, director of the IMF's African Department. He noted that this imbalance was among the factors considered when the IMF approved exceptional access financing for Ethiopia under its current programme, which is worth more than 3.4 billion dollars.
