Tanzania's Deputy Minister for Energy Salome Makamba has presented the Ministry of Energy's budget implementation report for the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals. The report, delivered at parliament in Dodoma, covered progress across electricity and renewable energy subsectors, including research, production and use of electricity from renewable and alternative energy sources available in the country.
The ministry outlined implementation of several major projects during the quarter. These included the Second Phase of the Electricity Supply Project for Hamlets, known as HEP IIA and HEP IIB, the Strong Grid Project, and clean cooking energy initiatives. The ministry also presented separate budget implementation reports for Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) and the Rural Energy Agency (REA), both of which the ministry said play important roles in developing the electricity sector and expanding energy access across the country.
The parliamentary meeting was attended by members of the Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals, alongside senior officials from the energy sector. These included the Permanent Secretary responsible for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Felshesmi Mramba; the Ministry's Director of Policy and Planning, Petro Lyatuu; TANESCO Managing Director Lazaro Twange; and REA Director General Engineer Hassan Saidy. Technical experts from the Ministry and its affiliated institutions also participated. The meeting was chaired by Subira Mgalu.
The session aimed to review budget implementation and assess activities undertaken in the electricity and renewable energy subsectors during the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year. For businesses and households in Tanzania, the progress on these projects determines the pace at which reliable electricity supply expands and clean cooking alternatives become available across rural and urban areas.
