Religious leader donates 15m shillings to Uganda microfinance group

Apostle Gift Mugisha has given funds to a savings group run by church leaders in Mukono, calling on clergy to embrace business and farming.

Apostle Gift Mugisha, National President of the Generation Pastors Network, donated 15 million shillings to the Mukono District Generational Pastors Fellowship SACCO on October 15, 2026. The savings and credit cooperative, which operates under the Generation Pastors Network and is chaired by Apostle Moses Kabanda, has hundreds of members and aims to provide business loans for small and medium-sized enterprises, farming and other income-generating activities.

Mugisha told religious leaders attending the office commissioning that spiritual development should be paired with economic improvement. He urged pastors to lead by example through farming, business ownership and other work rather than relying only on offerings from congregants. He also called on church members to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset and combine prayer with financial discipline and literacy.

The Generation Pastors Network focuses on addressing poverty within Uganda's Pentecostal and born-again Christian communities. Mugisha outlined plans to establish what he described as Uganda's first bank for born-again Christians, with SACCOs serving as a foundation for the transition to a larger commercial banking operation. He encouraged GPN leaders and members to increase savings and invest in trade, agriculture and business ventures.
