Kibaha Municipal Council has halted sand mining operations in the Mpiji River valley at Vikawe Bondeni Street, Pangani Ward. The Municipal Mayor, Dr Mawazo Nicas, announced the ban this week after the council found that no permit had been granted for sand extraction in the area.
The council said the decision was taken to prevent further environmental degradation and protect the river valley from damage caused by unauthorised mining activity.
