Competition regulator wins four honours for consumer protection work

The FCCPC received multiple awards from media organisations and industry bodies for advancing consumer welfare and fair competition across Nigeria's markets.

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has won four recognitions from media organisations and industry stakeholders for its work protecting consumers and promoting fair competition in Nigeria. NaijaTimes presented the commission with the Institutional Integrity and Public Service Award at a ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, while the Daily Independent Newspaper nominated it for Regulator of the Year 2026. The Women Enterprise Alliance, under the Aisha Babangida Foundation, shortlisted the FCCPC for Regulatory Body of the Year Award, and BrandXchange named it Citizen-Centric Ministry, Department and Agency of the Year (Federal) for 2026.

NaijaTimes publisher and Editor-in-Chief Ehi Braimah said the award recognised the commission's role in advancing consumer welfare, promoting competitive markets and encouraging responsible business conduct across Nigeria's economic landscape. The recognition was presented to the commission's Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tunji Bello.

Bello said the awards served as an incentive to strengthen the commission's commitment to its mandate. "We are encouraged that our work is attracting attention and recognition from different quarters. For us, what counts more is the difference we make in the lives of consumers and in the integrity of the marketplace," he said. He added that the recognitions would challenge the commission to strengthen its resolve and remain focused on building markets where businesses can compete fairly and consumers are treated justly.

The Daily Independent cited the FCCPC's doggedness in pursuing its statutory responsibilities in its nomination, while the Women Enterprise Alliance said it intended to celebrate the commission's regulatory mandate and the broader impact of effective regulation on enterprise confidence, market participation and sustainable economic development. BrandXchange acknowledged the FCCPC's exemplary service, outstanding achievements and commitment to excellence.
