Lidl bids for Poundland store in potential breakup deal

The German discount supermarket has submitted an offer for a single Poundland location, with hopes of acquiring additional stores if the retailer is dismantled.

Lidl has made a bid to purchase one Poundland store from Gordon Brothers, the owner putting the retailer up for sale. The offer hints that Lidl could expand its presence through additional locations should Poundland be broken up and sold in parts.

The move marks Lidl's interest in expanding its UK store footprint through an acquisition strategy focused on the struggling discount retailer sector.
