The Nigerian Exchange has unveiled nominees for its 2026 PEARL Awards, shortlisting leading companies across major economic sectors. The awards ceremony will take place on 29 November 2026 in a hybrid format combining physical attendance and live streaming, according to Tayo Orekoya, President and Chief Executive Officer of PEARL Awards Nigeria.
The PEARL Awards has evaluated corporate performance for three decades since its establishment in 1995. Unlike awards that rely on nominations or subjective assessments, the organisation uses a rigorous, research-driven methodology based on ten key financial indices including turnover growth, return on equity, dividend yield, return on assets, profit margin ratio and share price appreciation. Orekoya emphasised that ultimate winners are determined by performance outcomes, not by corporate influence, sponsorship or popularity.
The shortlists feature several major companies across sectors. In banking, Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Holdings and Wema Bank are contending for recognition. The food products category includes BUA Foods, Cadbury Nigeria and NASCON Allied Industries, while the oil and gas sector features Seplat Energy, Aradel Holdings and Eterna. Other nominated firms span multiple sectors, including Guinness Nigeria, MTN Nigeria Communications and Okomu Oil Palm.
Orekoya highlighted significant developments in Nigeria's capital markets. A proposed N2.15 trillion Initial Public Offering by Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals has the potential to expand market capitalisation and deepen market participation if successfully completed and listed. He also noted that the Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Exchange Limited, Jude Chiemeka, was elected President of the African Securities Exchanges Association, reflecting Nigeria's rising prominence on the continent.
The awards' theme for this year is "Celebrating Excellence, Inspiring the Future," reflecting the organisation's expansion beyond annual awards into thought leadership platforms including the PEARL Awards Annual Corporate Summit and the upcoming 2027 Nigerian Stock Market Annual. For investors and businesses, this awards process recognises companies demonstrating strong financial performance and operational excellence on Nigeria's capital market.
