Defence firm seeks $100m venture to boost local military output

DICON Dana Tactical Limited aims to strengthen Nigeria's indigenous defence manufacturing and reduce reliance on foreign military equipment supplies.

DICON Dana Tactical Limited, a joint venture focused on strengthening Nigeria's defence manufacturing capacity, is pursuing a $100 million investment to expand local production of military vehicles, specialised vehicles and security equipment. The initiative leverages Dana Motors' automotive expertise and international partnerships to develop domestic manufacturing capabilities, promote technology transfer and support Nigeria's national security objectives and long-term industrial growth.

Jacky Hathiramani, chief executive officer of DICON Dana Tactical Limited, said the venture represents a strategic investment in national security and industrial development. He commended the Ministry of Defence for its foresight in the initiative and noted that a nation's defence capability depends not only on the equipment it acquires but also on its ability to manufacture, maintain and sustain critical equipment locally. Hathiramani also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's commitment to strengthening Nigeria's capacity and developing local manufacturing expertise across sectors.

The joint venture aims to support the operational needs of the Nigerian Armed Forces and reduce dependence on foreign supply chains for essential military equipment. General Christopher Musa, the Minister of Defence, has shown confidence in the initiative. According to Hathiramani, the partnership presents an opportunity to develop local manufacturing expertise, build industrial capabilities required to advance national security and create employment opportunities while strengthening local supply chains.

The success of the venture will depend on sustained public-private collaboration, investment in technical expertise and adherence to rigorous quality standards. The joint venture aligns with Nigeria's broader ambition to expand its domestic defence industrial base through local manufacturing, technology transfer and skills development.

For businesses and investors, this development signals government commitment to building domestic defence manufacturing capacity, which could create supply chain opportunities and employment across the sector.
