More than 300 supermarkets across France have been hit by a cyber attack that compromised their refrigeration equipment. Attackers gained access to software controlling the temperature systems, causing some fridges and freezers to warm to 50 degrees Celsius overnight, ruining perishable stock. The attack targeted software supplied by Danish engineering company Danfoss.
Coopérative U, which operates over 100 affected stores, described the incident as extremely serious and unprecedented. Intermarché and its Netto brand experienced problems across 180 locations, with a further 100 shops urgently disconnected from the internet as a precaution. Major retailers Carrefour, Monoprix and E.Leclerc were also targeted in the widespread attack.
