YAS Tanzania grooms 20 managers for future leadership roles

The telecoms company graduated over 20 senior staff from a leadership programme designed to fill executive positions and maintain business continuity.

YAS Tanzania has graduated more than 20 senior employees from a leadership development programme aimed at preparing them for future management and executive roles. The Senior Managers Leadership Development Programme, run in partnership with Strathmore Business School, forms part of the company's strategy to develop internal talent for critical positions as the business evolves.

Chief Executive Officer Pierre Canton Bacara said at the graduation ceremony in Dar es Salaam that investing in employees' leadership capabilities was vital for decision-making, business performance and organisational continuity. "As our business changes, our leaders must be ready to make difficult decisions, guide their teams and deliver results. Preparing people before they step into bigger roles gives them a stronger foundation and helps the business maintain continuity," he said.

The programme covers team leadership, performance management and strategy execution, with the goal of building a pool of qualified internal candidates for senior positions, addressing skills gaps and creating career progression opportunities. The Head of Training and Development, Janet Igogo, explained that the initiative was part of a broader employee development strategy targeting department heads and other senior leaders. "When a critical role becomes available, we want capable people within Yas who are ready to take it on. That requires deliberate preparation throughout their careers, with training that addresses the responsibilities they will face," she said.

YAS Tanzania plans to continue the programme alongside other employee development initiatives to expand its internal talent pool and prepare more staff for future management and leadership positions. In Tanzania's telecoms sector, strengthening management capabilities can help companies respond more effectively to changing market demands and the needs of customers and institutions increasingly reliant on digital services.
