Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has announced that his administration will concentrate on industrialisation and supporting small businesses in its second term, while continuing some infrastructure work. Speaking to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, Oyebanji said his first term focused on laying foundations through road construction and electricity provision. He noted that by the end of the year, the administration would have built close to 400 kilometres of roads.
Oyebanji said the next phase would transform these infrastructure investments into greater economic productivity. He wants to see more agricultural products from Ekiti processed locally and converted into finished goods that generate higher economic value. The governor stated that small-scale entrepreneurs including welders, tailors, hairdressers and barbers need access to affordable funds to expand their businesses.
The governor said farmers must have reliable buyers and connections to companies that can process their produce. He added that his administration would invest substantially in creating a suitable environment for investors. Oyebanji noted that internally generated revenue has grown significantly over the past three to four years.
Oyebanji, inaugurated for a second term on Friday after winning re-election on June 20, also outlined other priorities. The administration plans to upgrade Ekiti airport to operate 24 hours daily and improve weather capabilities. It has installed an Instrument Landing System that is being assessed for certification. The governor said the state will reactivate work on nearly 80 kilometres of township roads and implement a comprehensive water supply programme focused on replacing old pipes.
