Ethiopia reshuffles top jobs at investment and markets bodies

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's office has announced leadership changes across Ethiopia's key economic institutions as part of a push to accelerate reforms.

The Ethiopian Investment Commission has a new Commissioner in Hana Teklu, who previously led the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority. She replaces Zeleke Temesgen in the role. The Prime Minister's office said the changes signal a renewed strategy to accelerate economic reform and boost institutional efficiency across investment promotion, capital markets regulation, immigration and diaspora engagement.

During her time at ECMA, Hana helped establish the legal and operational foundations for Ethiopia's capital market. She is expected to bring fresh momentum to the Investment Commission as Ethiopia works to attract foreign direct investment in manufacturing, agriculture, mining and renewable energy.

Zeleke Temesgen has moved to become Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Ethiopian Investment Holdings, which functions as the country's sovereign wealth fund and manages commercial and strategic assets across state-owned enterprises. He will focus on optimizing asset management and boosting the fund's contribution to the national economy.

Dagmawit Shiferaw has been appointed Director General of ECMA, with Yirgalem Assefa as Deputy Director General. The Prime Minister's office said they will operationalize the capital market framework as part of financial sector modernization. Other appointments include Ambassador Fitsum Arega as head of the Immigration and Citizenship Service and Ambassador Lencho Bati leading the Ethiopian Diaspora Service.
