Rwanda's government has secured more than 600 business spaces for traders affected by a fire that destroyed Goico Market in Musanze. The Minister of Local Government Dominique Habimana and Minister of Trade and Industry Antoine Kajangwe met with the affected traders at the Pastoral Hall in Musanze to discuss their recovery and reassure them of government support.
The allocated spaces will allow some traders to resume operations while authorities continue searching for additional premises to accommodate more businesses. Officials said they would work with traders to rebuild their operations during this difficult period.
The government plans to assess the individual circumstances of affected traders, including their tax obligations, outstanding loans and other obstacles that might prevent them from restarting their businesses. This assessment will help officials identify tailored solutions for each trader's needs.
The fire at Goico Market caused significant damage to goods and resulted in major losses for businesses operating there. The government's assistance is intended to help traders return to business and continue contributing to the local economy.
