Nigeria's Federal Government has approved N40.76bn for the third quarter of 2026 under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund, representing a rise of N7.88bn from the previous quarter's N32.88bn allocation, according to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate.
The government also announced plans to extend health insurance coverage to inmates as part of the same initiative. The minister said the decisions reflect the administration's commitment to delivering quality, affordable and accessible healthcare for disadvantaged Nigerians, in line with both the Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative.
The Basic Health Care Provision Fund is intended to finance the delivery of basic healthcare services across Nigeria. The latest approved amount marks a significant increase compared to the second quarter disbursement earlier this year.
