Airtel Tanzania has paid the government 65.48 billion shillings in dividends during the year, according to statements made at the opening of a flagship retail facility at the company's head office in Dar es Salaam on Friday. The payments bring the company's cumulative dividend contributions to around 350 billion shillings since 2019. The government holds a 49 per cent stake in Airtel Tanzania.
Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila inaugurated the new shop, which offers internet connectivity, Airtel Money services, home and business fibre packages, enterprise solutions, SIM registration and customer support in a single location. The commissioner praised the company's investment in 4G and 5G networks but pressed Airtel to strengthen network speed, reliability and customer service to keep pace with growing demand across the city.
Airtel Tanzania Managing Director Charles Kamoto said the store demonstrates the company's dedication to broadening access to services and generating employment and digital inclusion opportunities. The company operates more than 95 shops nationwide, supported by Airtel Money branches and thousands of agents serving customers across Tanzania. The new outlet combines digital technology with environmentally conscious design, according to the company's Director of Customer Service Adriana Lyamba.
The regional commissioner underlined that dependable connectivity represents an essential foundation for business and economic growth in Dar es Salaam, emphasising the importance of continued investment in digital infrastructure.
