Ikeja Hotel nine-month profit rises 15% to N8.19bn

The hospitality group's pre-tax earnings grew despite higher operating costs, with finance income offsetting weaknesses in core hotel operations.

Ikeja Hotel Plc reported a pre-tax profit of N8.19 billion for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, up 15.10% from N7.12 billion in the same period of 2025, according to its unaudited consolidated financial statements. However, the group's third quarter performance weakened, with pre-tax profit falling 14.52% to N2.08 billion from N2.44 billion in the third quarter of 2025.

Revenue for the nine-month period increased by 4.84% to N19.41 billion from N18.52 billion, with profit after tax rising 14.22% to N5.31 billion. The growth in pre-tax profit came despite higher operating expenses, supported by increased finance income and the absence of an investment-related loss recorded in the corresponding period of 2025. Rooms and Food and Beverage businesses jointly accounted for 94.66% of total revenue.

Cost pressures mounted during the period. Gross profit remained flat at N9.02 billion, while administrative expenses surged 36.09% to N2.15 billion from N1.58 billion. Sales and marketing expenses also increased to N714.49 million from N630.71 million. Tax expenses rose to N2.89 billion from N2.47 billion. These rising costs offset revenue gains, meaning the improvement in pre-tax earnings relied more on finance income than on stronger underlying hotel operations.

On the balance sheet, total assets grew to N80.96 billion as of September 2026 from N77.44 billion at the end of December 2025, driven by cash accumulation and capital investment. Retained earnings increased by approximately N3.34 billion. However, the group's operating cash flow weakened significantly, with net cash generated from operating activities declining 33.12% to N4.92 billion from N7.35 billion. Net cash inflow fell 63.35% to N2.50 billion from N6.82 billion in the comparable period of 2025.

Ikeja Hotel's shares closed at N45.00 per share on October 26, 2026, on the Nigerian Exchange, having gained 7.40% year-to-date from N41.90 at the start of 2026. For savers and investors, the company's reliance on finance income rather than operational strength to drive profit growth signals potential vulnerability to changes in interest rates and investment returns.
