Kenya and the United States have reviewed Kenya's economic situation and its relationship with the International Monetary Fund ahead of planned consultations. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi met with Eric Meyer, the US Treasury Department's Deputy Assistant Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, during the 2026 IMF and World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand. The talks covered upcoming IMF Article IV consultations, publication of Kenya's Governance Diagnostic Report and ways to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
An IMF mission is expected in Nairobi in early December for Article IV consultations, which examine a country's economic policies including fiscal management, monetary policy and financial stability. Both countries also discussed progress on Kenya's Governance Diagnostic Report, which will contribute to conversations about governance and public sector accountability.
