The Coast Regional Commissioner, Stanslaus Nyongo, said electricity availability across the region's villages is targeted to reach 95 per cent by the end of this year, as the regional administration works to improve infrastructure supporting industrial development and investment.
Mr Nyongo made the comments while welcoming Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba to inspect ongoing work at the Hongwang Tanzania industrial park in Bagamoyo District. He said the regional administration was also collaborating with the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency to upgrade roads leading to investment areas, making them more accessible to businesses.
The Coast Region currently has 1,768 industries, comprising 503 large-scale and 258 small-scale operations, along with approximately 35 registered industrial parks, according to Mr Nyongo. He said improvements in water and electricity services were intended to support industrial activities and create a more favourable environment for investors.
Mr Nyongo said the region was contributing to the country's Vision 2050 goal of building a one trillion US dollar economy by 2050, with industrial development playing an important role in achieving this target. He added that the regional administration would continue working with public and private institutions to strengthen investment activities and promote economic growth.
