Kenya's National Treasury has ordered all state agencies to identify and sell idle, obsolete and excess assets by December 31, 2026. Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi said keeping unused assets in storage increases costs, causes them to deteriorate and creates security and accountability risks.
The directive requires public entities to follow the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act, 2015, and submit reports on progress to the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority by year-end. Mbadi told accounting officers to complete disposal plans within the current financial year rather than delaying them.
