NBA president orders probe into ₦100m Imo gift handling

The Nigerian Bar Association has launched an investigation into how the Owerri branch received and spent a ₦100 million gift from the Imo State Government.

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, President of the Nigerian Bar Association, has set up a three-member committee to examine allegations of mismanagement surrounding a ₦100 million gift from the Imo State Government to the NBA Owerri Branch. The move came after members of the branch raised concerns and 183 members requested an Extraordinary General Meeting to discuss the matter.

The committee comprises NBA General Secretary Afam Okeke, Third Vice-President Iniobong Pepple and Treasurer Esther Jimoh. According to Badejo-Okusanya's statement on Thursday, the panel will review financial records, hear from interested parties and report its findings by 30 October 2026. The NBA president said the investigation aims to establish facts and ensure members' concerns receive proper attention.

Badejo-Okusanya stressed that the inquiry does not presume wrongdoing by any individual and that everyone whose conduct is questioned will have a fair chance to respond. She emphasised that all relevant financial records must be preserved. The committee members will attend the Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled for Thursday at 2 pm to observe proceedings and maintain order.

The NBA president said accountability must proceed hand in hand with due process and that the association remains committed to addressing member concerns through a fair, transparent and orderly approach.
